How should flat drills and a drill with a point angle be used differently?

How should flat drills and a drill with a point angle be used differently?

Category :

Answer

Applications Where flat drills are advantageous

  • Drilling in the inclined surface (at the entrance and pull out)
  • Drilling holes on surfaces with uneven surfaces
  • When burrs are likely to occur
  • Half-Hole

Applications Where drills with point angle are advantageous

  • Drilling on flat surfaces
  • High-efficiency machining
  • Deep hole

Advantages of Flat Drills

Because the tip is flat, it can efficiently perform hole drilling that previously had problems with drills with point corners. For example, it can keep burrs small even when countersinking on inclined or curved surfaces, or when the exit side of the workpiece is inclined, curved,or has a cross hole.

Disadvantages of flat drills

Because the tip is flat, thrust resistance is high. In addition, the ADF of flat drills has a helix angle of approximately 20° to increase rigidity during interrupted cutting. As a result, chip evacuation performance is reduced compared to reguler carbide drills.
